INTERPRETING AT THE INDEPENDENT DAYS

The INDEPENDENT DAYS | International Film Festival are taking communication to the next level. We will be providing simultaneous interpretation for the highlights of this iconic film festival in Karlsruhe, Germany, and entertaining international guests with fun, facts and fanfare in real time.

INDEPENDENT DAYS – FILMS THAT BREAK THE MOULD

From 15th to 19th April 2026, the iconic Schauburg cinema in Karlsruhe will be hosting the INDEPENDENT DAYS | International Film Festival for the 25th time. This year, BadenDolmetscher will ensure seamless communication in German and English during the festival’s highlights, becoming part of the community of sponsors.

For more than a quarter of a century, the INDEPENDENT DAYS have been celebrating independent films, screening poetic short films, gripping documentaries, captivating feature films, animated or hybrid formats. Special features include topics such as democracy, integrity and the future of our planet.

„The diversity of genres is also important to us, something that many major film producers and TV stations shy away from, especially in Germany and Europe. We are committed to a cinema that can overcome the limits of reality with courage and self-confidence and reflect on the strengths of storytelling. The INDEPENDENT DAYS show a film programme that reflects the entire spectrum of independent cinema,“ says the IDIF festival team.

Twelve awards with a total value of €13,000 will be presented at this year’s Award Gala, the categories including Best Debut Film, Best Female Director and Best Short Film.

The full programme is available here, tickets are on sale now.

OUR SERVICES AT THE FESTIVAL

As a premium language provider, BadenDolmetscher will be covering both the Opening Shorts on 15th April 2026 and the Award Gala on 18th April 2026. We will be interpreting opening speeches, interviews, commentary and acceptance speeches from German into English, making sure that international guests can follow along with the programme.

The system we use is a tourguide system by top-notch audio equipment manufacturer Sennheiser. The festival team will be handing out receivers and headphones to guests who have requested to use the service. The interpreter will be in the theater, listening to the original German contributions and simultaneously interpreting them into English. Her microphone transmits directly to the system’s receivers. International guests get to enjoy puns, praise and punchlines in English, while the German-speaking guests simply listen to the original.

PRO BONO WORK – WHY WE DO THIS

We have been fans of the INDEPENDENT DAYS | International Film Festival for many years. The filmmakers at this festival tell new and unexpected stories, instead of churning out more predictable thrillers, rom-coms or comedies. Some films tell stories from lesser-known regions of the world in unfamiliar languages, others offer a fresh, even startling perspective on issues and places that seem familiar at first.

As interpreters, this is a festival after our own heart. Our job is not just to translate words from one language to another, but to facilitate communication between different cultures. As entrepreneurs and as people, we cherish diversity and an open-minded attitute towards other people and cultures. It is our pleasure to support the INDEPENDENT DAYS with communication and to become a part of the community of sponsors.
